The turning down prices for solar products is more likely to shrink the profit margins for SunPower Corp and LDK Solar Co Ltd this year, the companies said on Tuesday. Germany and Italy, the world’s two largest solar markets, have now decided to cut the subsidies for the renewable energy source in recent months.

The electric grid operator of Texas has appealed the urged transmission and distribution companies to thoroughly inspect their equipments for drought-related residue which may disturb the power supply. The Electric Reliability Council of Texas has advised these companies to ensure maintenance of their equipments in case they have some problems.

NRG, a New Jersey-based independent power producer, in collaboration with Toshiba was planning to build two giant reactors in South Texas as a part of their largest nuclear project in the United States but recently it announced to give up its $331 million of investment in the wake of uncertainties created by catastrophe in Japan.

In January there will be the first set of changes to endorse greater contest in the electricity retailing.
There is an agreement between the three publicly-owned energy firms i. e. Genesis Energy, Meridian Energy, and Mighty River Power. They have decided to change over a certain amount of power a year so as to allow them to participate nationally.
