A class-action lawsuit was filed against the US based medicine manufacturing company Merck & Co for the arthritis painkiller Vioxx. The Company has been charged for not providing about the information of cardiovascular risks associated to the drug.
Merck Reports Tripled Profits in First Quarter

Merck & Company reported that its first-quarter profit tripled from the same quarter a year before even though their generic competition only experienced a sales growth of 1%. These results by Merck even went beyond the expectations of what financial analysts in the industry predicted.
Even though Merck’s share prices have been basically flat all year long, they experienced a rice of 12 cents to $35.89 on Friday.
Merck’s Vioxx Withdrawn from Markets

A patient was compensated with a huge amount after he revealed that the drug had caused him a heart attack.
Similar stories surfaced claiming that the medicine had lead to heart attacks in many hundreds of Australians. It was, therefore, refrained in 2004 all over the world.
HPV Vaccine for Genital Warts Receives Approval in Canada

The vaccine manufacturer Merck revealed that Health Canada has extended an approval to Gardasil used for the prevention of genital warts caused by HPV infection in boys and men aged nine to 26.
Gardasil is also to be administered to girls across Canada, and provincial programs began popping up across Canada to deliver in-school vaccination clinics.
New Data Submitted to FDA by Merck for Wider Use of Gardasil

On Wednesday, pharmaceutical company Merck & Co. confirmed that it has submitted new clinical data to the US Food and Drug Administration, with the hope that it will be allowed the expanded use of Gardasil, the cervical-cancer vaccine, in women who are aged between 27 and 45.
FDA can not associate Vytorin to cancer

The Food and Drug Administration reviewed data based on a trial called SEAS that was based on Zetia, Vytorin and Merck's related drug. Findings from and ongoing studies were also considered. The data said Vytorin or Zetia increase the risk of cancer or cancer-related death, but an association was ruled out.
"We're pleased with the conclusions reached by the FDA," said Merck spokesman Ron Rogers.
