British broadcasters are claim that open internet is necessary for the growth of broadband.
A fresh survey report, commissioned by the BBC, Channel 4, Yahoo, Skype and online video platform Blinkbox, concludes that online content providers have provided a boost to demand for broadband connectivity that contributed towards revenues of around 155 billion euros from fixed & mobile broadband in Europe in 2010.

With mental health patients in Berkshire to be relocated from Ascot, Maidenhead and Slough to Reading, Berkshire Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust is suggesting that relatives of the patients use Skype to speak to their loved ones, instead of travelling to the hospital everyday!
Comcast to offer Skype video calls through TV sets

Announced on the eve of Cable Show in Chicago, the service will require subscribers to have a high-quality video camera, an adaptor box, and a special remote control that will have texting capabilities.
Users will be allowed to utilize Skype’s full screen video calling as well as instant messaging.
Skype protocol reverse engineered by Russian researcher

Freelance researcher Efim Bushmanov from Russia reportedly cracked-open the Skype protocol by reverse engineering and made the source code public.
The source code posted by Bushmanov encompasses Skype versions 1. x, 3. x, and 4. x along with details of the rc4 layer arithmetic encoding the service uses.
Skype for Mac month-old vulnerability yet to be fixed

The Skype client for Mac has a serious vulnerability that allows attacker to gain remote control of a victim's computer, security researcher Gordon Maddern warned.
Maddern, of Pure Hacking in Australia, claimed that he discovered the vulnerability around a month ago alerted Skype of it, but Skype has yet to fix the vulnerability.
Rovio secures $42M in Series A round of funding

Finnish software firm Rovio, well-known for the popular mobile-phone game "Angry Birds," has secured $42 million in a Series A round of funding co-led by Accel Partners and Atomico Ventures.
Skype co-founder Niklas Zennstrom, who started Atomico Ventures, is joining Rovio's board of directors. Capital-venture firm Accel Partners has earlier made investments in AdMob, Facebook and Groupon.
