Landowners Who Suffered Disruption to Be Compensated: Transpower

TranspowerThe direct effect of major lines upgrade has at last concluded with an accord between Transpower and landowners in Otago, which is a step forward, as said by landowners in South Canterbury.

Transpower yesterday informed that it would reimburse all those landowners who faced disruption in their farm operations due to duplexing or with another noteworthy construction-related work on ‘Facilitating Renewables’ project.

Steve and Delia Meier, the farmers who’ve been involved in a five year long legal battle with Transpower, the power company that has six transmission lines running through their property, today expressed desire to end the drawn out conflict by agreeing to a meeting.

It has come to vision that a farmer-led lobby group has been unsuccessful in acquiring a judicial review of Transpower's planned pylon line through Waikato.

Another review of the Electricity Commission's decision approving the pylons was sought by New Era Energy, claiming it was biased. It should be noted that farmers and landowners along the route strongly opposed the Transpower's plan for 200km of high pylons, estimated to cost $683 million.

Today morning, power lines fell on nearly 20 suburban Auckland houses. However, no causalities were reported and all the residents have been safely evacuated from their homes. Some of the terrified residents had been trapped for hours.

As of now, the inspectors from Transpower were at the scene trying to clear away the broken 200,000 volt line which lies sprawled across homes, gardens and road.

"The cause of this morning's line plunge was still under investigation," said Transpower spokeswoman Adele Fitzpatrick.

Today, Transpower accelerated $50 million of work on the national grid, thus much required work on high-voltage power pylons will now be maintained from April on, which otherwise could have been waiting up to 10 years.
