In Victoria, Woolworths have opening 10 new home improvement stores, which are going to generate 1300 new jobs, in the next 1 year. Famous as the fresh food people, are trying to start hardware business, which will propel in direct competition with the other dominating DIY retailer Bunnings.
Woolworths completes share buyback

Woolworths Ltd declares that it has completed a $704 million off-market share buy-back with overpowering shareholder shore up.
The grocery giant said the final buy-back price was $25.62 per share after 27.5 million shares were purchased from shareholders who tendered their shares at a 14 per cent discount or as final price tenders.
The Woolworths stores remain empty after 18 months of its collapse

The Woolworths stores are still unused even after one and half year of the collapse of the chain. More than 300 stores of Woolworths across the country had failed to find out new occupants after its closure. The information provider of the retail sector of the country, Local Data Company said the chain had occupied 40% of the retail business of the country when it was running. Some of the experts say about 150 stores may never be used as stores again in future.
Bunnings Accused by Woolworths

The supermarket colossal Woolworths Ltd. has been accused by Bunnings Warehouse, the hardware retailer. The former has been charged for circumventing planning and zoning laws, which in turn, could have kept it away from the outside inspection.

Gary Weiss during the 1980s, as a corporate lawyer from New Zealand, purchased 20% of Woolworths, within two days, while he worked with team at Ron Brierley's corporate raider, Industrial Equity Limited. Weiss, 56, recalls and terms the days as "some of the happiest days of his life".
License Auction, Woolworths and Mathieson buy $24m Licenses

During a State Government auction, $24 million was paid for 4,692 decade-long poker machine licenses, by Woolworths Ltd and Bruce Mathieson. An average per license paid by both the firms accounted to be $38,000.
