It has been noticed that the number of official complaints against the New Zealand broadcasters has reached record high levels. This has been for the year ending June, 2010.
But what is worrying is that it is expected that they are going to hit even higher limits in the coming year.
Data given by the Broadcasting Standards Authority (BSA) has said that it received as many as 210 complaints during the year in question. This level is 30 per cent higher than what it had got last year when the number stood at 162.
The other record high year was when it got 206 in 1996-97 and 1999-2000. Talking about the year, BSA chief executive Dominic Sheehan said that it has been a colorful one as people had to say about everything from immigration policy to someone groping David Beckham's genitals.
Most of the complaints came for the One News followed by 3News, Close Up, Breakfast and also Sunday. In the tally, Breakfast presenter Paul Henry's comments about Governor General Anand Satyanand and Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit, have not been included.
