The Auckland Council's decision is greeting a sketch modify for the rezoning of its St Lukes land property by Australian shopping mall owner Westfield.
Westfield wants to modify the mall's indoor floor space to 9.2ha, from 4.5ha. it wants all the mall’s superior than the 7ha Sylvia Park shopping centre in Mt Wellington and Westfield Albany, whose area is about 7ha.
The expansion of the mall is in controversy. It is because of its suburban location.
Westfield Director Justin Lynch assumed that this was the first step to improve the future planning so that the land holdings of Westfield may be used at St Lukes.
He added that at this stage there is no time frame for the origination of any growth works at the centre. Specific plans are required for any future development at the centre.
This year, in April the proposed plan change was publicly notified. There was two public hearing which was held in the month of June.
