The winner of the Queensland's Australian of the year for 2011 is Associate Professor Noel Hayman who is the first Indigenous doctor to bag this honor.
Professor Hayman is a graduate from the University of Queensland's (UQ) School of Medicine and is presently appointed as the Director of the award-winning integrated health centre, Inala Primary Care.
He has been awarded this prestigious honor for his contribution in Indigenous health and his mission for the improvement of the life expectancy of Indigenous Australians.
He was also among the first string of Indigenous medical graduates and has laid out a path for all the aspiring doctors to contribute in the same direction.
He was the founder of the Inala Primary Care and is also appointed as the Director of the institution operated by the UQ in collaboration with the Queensland Health.
They work towards making available facilities like integrated health services for chronic disease, mental health, pain management, palliative care and pharmacy services.
He said, "It was there that I felt my combined life-experience and my qualifications could help make a difference."
