The lawyers have announced on Friday that the settlement which has recently taken place in the New York City will put forth some hundreds of millions of dollars for the ground zero workers who had been exposed to the toxic debris after the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks.
Marc Berns, an attorney for the plaintiffs said that this deal had been sanctioned by the Plaintiffs very intently only after they faced a deadline which needed the approval from some 95% of some 10,000 people working at ground zero.
U. S. District Court Judge, Alvin Hellerstein is said to have rejected an initial settlement in the month of March. He had put forth an opinion saying that this settlement did little to address the workers' ailments.
The seven-year fight between the city and first responders has finally been concluded. The responders had said that the authorities had failed to properly outfit them for rescue and cleanup efforts after the 9/11 attacks, as a result of which they had been exposed to toxic dust which are later said to have later impelled respiratory health issues.
"It's a fantastic deal for everybody. Is it perfect? No. Is there a perfect deal? No. But this is as good a deal as you're going to get”, said Berns.
