The residents are getting sufficient awareness regarding a disease which kills many more people in the UK as compared to even colon cancer through an awareness campaign. This step has been gladly accepted by the Health Minister of the Island.
Awareness is being raised for the Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) by the Noble’s Hospital along with the Ramsey group. The awareness program was part of the British Lung Foundation’s national COPD awareness day which was held this week on Wednesday.
This condition is a lung disorder which can’t be reversed and is progressive. Smoking and pollution caused by industries like asbestos dust are the main causes of this lung disease.
Many more people are killed by COPD every year as compared to those who die due to colon cancer. COPD also claims more lives in men than prostate cancer does and more lives in women than breast cancer causes.
"COPD is often associated with smoking. The health benefits of stopping smoking have been clear for some time but never more so than when you take account of the debilitating effects of respiratory disease.
