Yesterday's assembly was partially converted into a lesson on breast cancer and the ones attending the meeting had hardly any knowledge about the fatal disease.
Among a range of other information on the disease the new fact was learnt about men having a lesser risk of breast cancer than women and they have a much lower chance of surviving the disease if they get infected because they don't have some tissues in the breast which can shield vital organs.
Dr Robia Kosai, chairman of the Community Welfare and Health Committee and State Women and Family Development said that men must take the same kind of precautions as is advised to women like undergoing self-examination of breast and getting a screening or mammography in the hospital.
As per the data available from the last 8 years women contributed to almost 95 percent of breast cancer sufferers in the nation and one out of 20 had a risk of this disease.
The earliest symptoms of the ailment include a lump which is not the same as the rest of the breast and later on some indentures are formed on the breast skin which also swells up suddenly with a nipple inversion.
