As per the records of the American Diabetes Association almost 20 percent of the population of the Unites States suffers from a condition called prediabetes.
This implies that almost 61.7 million people in the country are obese, suffer from higher-than-normal levels of blood sugar and are not active enough which puts them at a risk for developing adult onset or type-2 diabetes.
A metabolic disorder where the body keeps producing insulin but is unable to use it effectively in a condition called type 2 diabetes is diagnosed in adulthood and doesn't always need insulin injections.
Dr. Lucy Mastrandrea, pediatric endocrinologist at Women and Children's Hospital and a diabetes researcher at the University at Buffalo said, "Think of the development of [type 2] diabetes as a spectrum. You go from initially being overweight, where the insulin that your pancreas makes can't work as well, so it makes more and more."
The most common trigger of type 2 diabetes is obesity which is the biggest risk factor for the development of this condition. Other factors which contribute in the development of type 2 diabetes is a inactive lifestyle along with genetic factors.
