They say that a glass of red wine is great for health as it is full of antioxidants but recently scientists have discovered that some allergies are also caused by wine like skin rashes, headaches and stuffy noses because of the presence of an allergen in the drink.
This new findings about wine will pave the way for new wine making processes with the aim of minimizing the formation of the mysterious allergen called glycoproteins along with offering low-allergenic wines to the consumers.
Almost 8 percent wine consumers across the globe suffer from allergies caused by the drink. Out of all the wines available only a small 1 percent contain sulfites which are the sulphur-containing substances which is added to wine by winemakers to prevent them from getting spoilt. However the remaining components which cause allergies in the left 7 percent are not clear yet.
Proteins which are coated with sugars and get produced naturally while the fermentation of grapes takes place which are called glycoproteins. Giuseppe Palmisano along with his colleagues are of the opinion that these glycoproteins could be the allergy causing components in wine.
