White Ribbon Motorcycle Ride to Reach Whanganui Thursday

White RibbonThe White Ribbon Motorcycle Ride was flagged off Saturday and witnessed the participation of 100 riders, who left for Tauranga. The motorcycle ride is part of the White Ribbon Day and was observed to create awareness about domestic violence in the country.

The bike ride would last for a period of seven days and would witness motorcyclists visiting at least 40 communities in North Island. The cross country bike ride is being led by biking groups, Super Maori Fullas and the Patriots Defense Force Motorcycle Club.

The riders would be reaching Whanganui Thursday and would be in the city from 11am to 1pm. The bike ride is also known as the North Island Tour, which is instrumental in spreading the message of non-violence at homes.

The initiative is undertaken by the Families Commission as part of the White Ribbon campaign that has been initiated to reduce the instances of violence against women. Thursday would see people marching up to Majestic Square from Victoria Avenue in the middle of the day as part of the campaign.

The riders in the initiative would enter Whanganui from the Southern entranceway and would be visiting two local schools as well.

Project Manager for Family Violence Intervention Network in Whanganui, Pete Jones stated that the ride would culminate at Virginia Lake around 1 pm.
