West Nile Cases Rise in Northern EuropePfizer Animal Health has shown its concern towards the soaring threat of the fatal West Nile Virus to horses in Northern Europe.

"West Nile Virus may well become a very real threat to both horses and humans in Northern Europe. It is important for vets, horse owners and infectious disease experts to work together to mitigate its impact in the event of the virus becoming endemic across Europe”, outlined Pfizer's equine veterinary adviser.

Recently, the Mississippi State Department of Health (MSDH) reported West Nile virus (WNV) case in humans witnessed in Tate County, taking the net toll to eight. The MSDH has announced the confirmed cases to the public.

Horse health gurus from the Pfizer have advised vets and horse owners to rise towards the rising threat of the virus in Britain this year.

Besides, spate of cases have also been reported in Greece which resulted in several deaths. In addition, human outbreaks have also occurred in Russia, Romania and Italy during 2010.

West Nile Fever, a fatal viral infection transmitted by mosquitoes was recorded at its peak in the months between July and October in northern climes. The disease can pose potential consequences on human and animal health related to fatal neurological disease.
