Many Type-1 Diabetics Lobbying for Procuring Resources for Care

Type 1 DiabeticsThere has been a surge in the number of those affected with type-2 diabetes in the United States, which is also contributing significantly to the increasing health-related costs.

On Tuesday, the healthcare insurer UnitedHealth Group came up with the analysis that diabetes-related costs could reach $3.35 trillion by 2020, if there is no change in the current situation, which sees diabetes affecting half of the American people.

The increase in the number of type-2 diabetics have also paid attention on type-1 diabetes, in which the bodies of sufferers stop producing insulin, a condition that cannot be cured by changing dietary patters and exercising. While in case of those affected with type-2 diabetics, they could keep a control on the disease by healthy diet and physical activities.

As per the study, around 27 million Americans are suffering from diabetes and an estimated 67 million people have pre-diabetes. For those affected with type-2 diabetes, the condition is treatable by adopting healthy lifestyle and more physical activity, while this is not the case in type-1 diabetes.

“Many people with Type 1 diabetes are lobbying for a new, distinct name for their condition in hopes of clearing up misconceptions and securing more resources to put toward a cure", said Julie Deardorff.
