According to a report by the Daily Mail the Hormone Replacement Therapy (HRT) can make a woman’s mind much smarter. The report also says that women who consume HRT after the age of 45 performed better in tasks which involve fine motor co-ordination skills as compared to other women of the same age not taking HRT.
This finding comes from the study which compared the results of tests in 33 menopausal women who take HRT with a set of 26 menopausal women who did not use the therapy.
It was seen that women who did not consume HRT displayed lesser asymmetry between the actions of left and right hands during the easy finger tapping test but those women who took HRT showed a better asymmetry between the two hands while doing the complicated sequential finger tapping test.
Researchers say that something that is usually observed in younger women was observed in those women who took HRT.
These researches have definitely brought to light some possible effects of hormones on the activity of the brain but they have limited clinical implications. Every woman during the study was of comparable dexterity and this single experimental test of finger tapping in such a small group of women does not prove that HRT made these women smarter or sharper.
