Accused accountant gets 18 months imprisonment

Sentence given to the fraud accountant is a period of 18 months. The order was passed by the Serious Fraud Office and it said that through this a very clear message has been sent to the white-collar people that they cannot get away with frauds.

The accountant was earlier employed with the National Finance 2000. 41 year old John Gray was working with the company for a very long time. His punishment was awarded to him by the Auckland District Court.

He is now appealing that he should not be given house detention. His bail plead is still pending and something on the same can be decided by March only.

SFO has charged two accounts and said that these two were behind the collapse of the motor financier in 2006. The fall had cost the investors $21 million. And the two were caught some three years after the matter came into light.

Gray had been accused of three charges. One of them was dropped when he had agreed to pay a reparations of $50,000 and had also said that he would testify against his co-defendant.
