As per the latest announcement made by the Environment Court, it has approved the TrustPower's Wairau River power scheme which is expected to be worth around $280 million.

It is to be mentioned here that the project is set to be the biggest development ever seen in the Marlborough region and it is believed that it has already caused friction in the Wairau Valley.

However, a few of the residents are opposed to the scheme for environmental and safety reasons while a few of them are happy to see benefits the canal would bring to an irrigation scheme.

TrustPower community relations manager Graeme Purches is of a view that the conditions the court has placed on the order are minor in nature. He also mentioned that the company is very happy with the decision and nothing of any material significance to the company.

While the manager was still unable to confirm when will be able to begin the work but said that the project will move ahead in the coming days. It is perhaps one of the most important projects for the company as well as the region.
