Staying Healthy and Trim in the Holidays

exercise dietThe holiday season usually brings with it an easing-voluntary or not-in exercise and diet regimens. There is no need for concern, however. Here are a few helpful tips for those worrying about keeping healthy and fit over the holidays.

Firstly, do not skip meals! Small, frequent meals and healthy snacks will help you avoid overeating at holiday parties. If you do overindulge during one meal, however, all is certainly not lost. Simply resume your planned diet at the next meal.

Another great tip is to monitor alcohol and soda consumption, as both are high in calories. Temper your intake alternating between water and alcoholic drinks. Other good substitutions include yogurt instead of cream and mayonnaise, herbs and spices instead of salts and fats, and baking with strained applesauce instead of butter or cooking oil. Dressings and side dishes are other good areas to cut calories from.

When it comes down to eating, try to eat smaller portions, eat slowly to give your body time to register satiation, skip appetizers of focus on healthier options, and focus your attention on the party itself instead of loitering near the food.

As always, regular exercise will help you maintain your weight, stay fit and decrease stress. Remember, though, that moderation is the key. Instead of denying yourself treats altogether, just restrict yourself to a taste.
