The Bay of Plenty Regional Council has reported that the Algal bloom which has been found in Rotorua's Lake Okaro does not mean the lake has started to deteriorate again.
The routine summer monitoring results are said to have confirmed the presence of blue-green algal blooms, which are potentially toxic following which a health warning has been issued by the council.
The water quality of the lake is, however, said to have showed some signs of improvement. Lake Okaro, which is about 20km south of Rotorua, near Rainbow Mountain is said to be very prone to blooms.
And these blooms are likely to occur in the month of November with a probability of them persisting for a few more months. A lessening in Lake Okaro's Trophic Level Index or TLI is said to have been celebrated in the regional council lately which is an indication of the lake health.
The level is said to have gone from 5.3 in 2008/09 to 4.7 for 2009/10.
"If in doubt, stay out. If there is a health warning issued, don't make contact with the water", said Medical Officer of Health, Dr. Neil de Wet. The level of blue-green algae was likely to result in adverse health effects and the people have therefore been asked to avoid any kind of contact with water.
