2.2% Rise in Construction Activity Recorded for September Quarter
Australian Bureau of Statistics

Official figures released by the Australian Bureau of Statistics on Wednesday revealed that total construction activity undertaken across the county for the September quarter recorded a 2.2% rise, indicating a positive growth in the construction sector in particular, and the whole economy in general.

For the three months up-to September, total construction work worth $39.282 Billion was undertaken, which is a substantial hike from the $38.787 Billion figure recorded for the previous quarter. The actual figures have managed to beat estimates pegged by analysts which hinted that the total construction work done for the quarter would fall by 0.5%.

While, as confirmed by ABS figures, total building work done for the July-September period for the current year rose to $18.676 Billion, seasonally adjusted, from $18.208 Billion recorded for last quarter, engineering work also hiked to $20.956 Billion, from $20.578 Billion.

A substantial growth in one of the country's core economic sectors is being viewed as a good sign by economists and analysts, and is further proof that Australia is well out of recession and on the path to strong growth.
