Woman gets hit by bus in newly opened Manners Street

Manners streetA woman, apparently in her thirties, got hit by a bus in Manners street. One of the nearby shopkeepers reported that though he did not really see the accident happening, he heard a thud as the woman got hit. According to the police, the woman has sustained moderate injuries. She was treated by an ambulance staff, which put a neck-brace on her and put her on to a stretcher.

The accident created a lot of disruption to the traffic, as buses started backing up along Willis St.

This is the second time a pedestrian has got hit by a bus in the new road worth $11 million, which was inaugurated on Sunday. Last evening even a teenage boy got knocked down by a bus but fortunately for him, he escaped it and walked away unscathed.

According to Barbara Burke, spokeswoman of Wellington city council, the council was informed about today's accident right as soon as it happened.

However, she added that no other accidents were reported to them after the new routes were inaugurated on Sunday. She also said that the council will enquire into the matter.
