Restructuring of government in Rotorua will prove to be tough for the residents over there. As suggested by the MP Steve Chadwick, up to 50 jobs were in danger as a result of this restructuring. At the office of the Inland Revenue Department in Rotorua there can be a cut in the staff as they look to reduce costs.
Inland Revenue Minister Peter Dunne however was having some other views and said that Chadwick's views were unfounded. He further added that the idea of staff cut did not make sense as the workers already had a lot of workload and the cut would only add to their woes. He thus, rubbished the claims made by Mrs. Chadwick.
Another proposal was that the people who just needed phone and computer to work could carry out their work from the regional offices which would help keep the local economies alive.
The lesser staff at the main centers would mean more work for the employees of that location. Public Services Association national secretary Brenda Pilott believes that the government has in mind the development of the public sector but definitely not at the expense of the local communities.
