A leading mental health expert has opined that a huge number of people end up dying because doctors don't usually diagnose their patients correctly. It has been stated by the expert that an increasing number of people suffering from bipolar disorder were being diagnosed with depression by doctors because of which, an increasing number of people ended up dying.
Talking about the prevailing condition for people suffering from Bipolar Disorder, the Executive Director for the Black Dog Institute, Gordon Parker said that drugs used for curing depression can end up being too dangerous for people suffering from the bipolar disorder. He added that people suffering from the bipolar disorder needed to be treated in a different manner.
The statement by Mr. Parker has come after he had conducted an audit into the functioning of the institute. It was found by Mr. Parker that more than 66% of the patients admitted at the facility were misdiagnosed.
It was found by Mr. Parker that bipolar disorder and anxiety were the most misdiagnosed conditions in patients, with a quarter of the patients being informed that they were misdiagnosed and were actually suffering from a condition known as bipolar disorder. Whereas, another 40% were told for the first time that they were suffering from anxiety.
