High-Protein and Low-Carb Diet Help in Keeping Weight Off

High Protein-As per a new study, a diet enriched in protein and poor in carbohydrates could help adults in reducing their excess weight that could pose health risks to them.

The study was carried out by researchers from Denmark's University of Copenhagen, which claimed to find diet that could assist avoiding additional calories. As per researchers, lean meats, poultry and beans, which have low carbohydrate concentration, could prove effective in preventing weight gain.

As many as 773 overweight and obese adults were involved in the study with their families living in eight European countries. They were given one of the five different diets; four diets had different proportions of proteins and carbohydrates, but the fifth diet, which was a controlled diet, which had moderate protein and there was no restriction on carbs' limit. The participants were followed for a period of six months.

Those who were taking the low-protein, high-carb diet gained about 2kg of weight as compared to the group taking the high-protein, low-carb diet, which experienced a little weight loss. It is also a good way to keep the weight off as people don't have to cut their diet.

"Eating protein may trigger metabolic changes that make people feel fuller than if they consumed carbs or fat", said Dr. David Ludwig and Cara Ebbeling of Children's Hospital Boston.
