As per a recent study, young kids with asthma may lag in reading skills as compared to their counterparts. The study shows that kids suffering from asthma are more likely to lag behind their classmates in reading as asthma-related sleeping problems could also affect their concentration.
The reports showed that almost 18.5% of school-going children with asthma were amongst those 25% of kids who faced reading problems towards the end of their first year.
The lead researcher, Canterbury University Associate Professor Kathleen Liberty, said "We think our findings suggest that asthma and early reading achievement are linked in some way, which is as yet not explained".
He also expressed his concern towards these children, as their health conditions are responsible for hindering their learning.
The findings of the study have called for support from schools so that these kids make improvements and show better results. The school staff must observe these kids more closely and support them if they are lagging behind.
Liberty told that these children require close observation or attention from the school staff. They can also develop a care plan with the health professionals and the parents of these kids.
