In January there will be the first set of changes to endorse greater contest in the electricity retailing.

There is an agreement between the three publicly-owned energy firms i. e. Genesis Energy, Meridian Energy, and Mighty River Power. They have decided to change over a certain amount of power a year so as to allow them to participate nationally.

There is a little creation in the North Island by Meridian Energy but there is no creation by Genesis Energy and Mighty River Power in the South Island.

In this agreement it involves Meridian selling up to 450 gigawatt hours of electricity a year via financial gets around to Genesis and 700 gigawatt hours to Mighty River in the South Island.

The same amount of electricity from Genesis and Mighty River will be obtained by Meridian in the North Island. From last two years Mighty River has been forcefully pushing into the South Island.

Chief executive, Doug Heffernan, assumed that the move will give more faith on wholesale purchase costs. This is done to understand how to make a profit from deal in the South Island.
