The Commerce Commission has given suggestions to the Government about the fixed line and broadband products that are resold by Telecom. It has said that a few fixed line and broadband products re-sold to the other providers should not be applied regulation on.
The wholesale customers of Telecom will be able to purchase the popularly named resale services from the phone company. They will again be able to re-sell the resale services of the phone company to other users by giving them a discount on the marked retail price.
According to what the Commission has said to the Communications Minister Steven Joyce, the broadband, data, and bundled services must not be regulated or controlled, because there is not much take-up, nor are there many alternatives to choose from.
However, it gives recommendation to have the services regulated wherein there is a large number of take-up, also comprising of residential and business lines as well as smart phone services. The regulation can also be where they do not face much competition or face limited or little competition.
The shares of Telecom increased by 0.5 per cent in trading yesterday, and reduced by 14 percent overall this year.
