Bid to Battle Alcohol Led By GP Group

A Nelson GP group believes that healthy professionals would be the winners in its bid to battle alcohol and compares the tougher alcohol law to that of the wars of smoking. With the number of under – age Australians drinkers increasing each year, with about 175 million drinks consumed by them every year, authorities are calling for a change in the drinking patterns.

The reports have brought out the concerns that a lot of accidents occur due to drinking. Car accidents and unwanted pregnancies due to binge drinking in adolescents have become very common, and violence is another problem. There is also a high risk factor of breast cancer among women who have more than the standard three drinks in a day. There are also other alcohol – related diseases like cancer and other heart diseases which are a cause of concern.

It has been reported that there have been increasing cases of intoxication and consumption in the emergency rooms and the rate has increased at an alarming speed when compared to last year and it seems that it would keep increasing until and unless the campaigns are carried out against binge drinking, and specifically chronic drinking.
