In the last few days there have been significant rains in Taranaki and that has controlled the draught-like situation there. This was said by the Federate Farmers, who have also said that the government declaration of draught situation should be put on hold.
Till now, the zones of Northland, Auckland, Waikato and the Ruapehu have been declared as draught-affected. In the list the name of Taranaki too was included.
Peter Adamski, President of Federated Farmers' and also the chairman of the rural support chain of the region informed that 25-150 mm of rain has happened. And this calls for the situation to be reviewed on a weekly basis.
He also said that it will take a few weeks time to make the situation in the pastures back to normal.
But in places like Waikato and Northland the situation continues to be grim and more rains are needed.
Northland Federated Farmers' president, Matthew Long said that the farmers are happy and good grass growth is expected this time. He said that while for now the water supplies have been replenished things can turn drier in the coming weeks.
