The Ministry of Agriculture will not make any alterations to the drought zones, in spite of a good quantity of rain in those regions during the last week.
The farmers meanwhile are celebrating since the rain is going to replenish the heat-parched soils and enable the pastures and crops to start growing again.
The Government had given the regions of Northland, north Auckland, Waikato and the Ruapehu district their drought statuses.
Last week, Taranaki applied for an inclusion into that list; however it has at present been put on hold due to the rain.
According to MAF, the showers that took place recently have been extremely good since it has been soaked into the ground instead of running off.
However, those rains are not ample to warrant a review of the drought declarations.
The ministry will closely observe the response of the pastures and crops to the rain that came down in the drought areas.
More rain is still required in Northland for it to respond anything positive.
According to the Northland Federated Farmers, the showers replenished the soil moisture levels for most of the farms in the area.
However, lack of further rain will turn the soils dry again.
