Feltex directors awarded a million dollars

Feltex-CarpetsThe ex-directors of the unsuccessful Feltex carpet company have received approximately a million dollars as compensation from the Auckland District Court.

The concerned directors here, Tim Saunders, John Feeney, Peter David Hunter, Peter Thomas and John Hagen received acquittal of Financial Reporting Act (FRA) charges back in the month of August.

Thomas had told at a press conference in their lawyers' Bell Gully's offices that the five of them will be asking for compensation for the ordeal that they had to go through.

The charges against the directors had been brought by the Ministry of Economic Development (MED) in the first place, who confirmed today that Auckland District Court judge Jan Doogue had given to Feltex's five ex-directors approximately $952,000 as compensation.

Judge Doogue had, in her judgment, agreed that the manner in which the prosecution had conducted the investigation (into Feltex and the directors) was way below than what was logically required.

The MED got an order to pay $848,000 for the legal expenses for the charges that had been brought against them and $101,091 as regard to disbursements.
