Jellyfish stings happen to be a common occurrence during the summers, there is at least one person on the beach, who ends up taking that stingy pain. However, an ambulance might be required if the sting victim finds it difficult to breathe.
Talking about jellyfishes and their irritating incidents, the Medical Director, Tony Smith said that though stings don't cause any specific harm to a person but they do cause a lot of pain. Apparently, the pain does last for quite some time and in some situation and can prolong for an hour and upwards. Though, the best solution for taking care of the pain caused by such stings is to flush the stung area with water, following which, the victim should try and clearing the tentacles, if there are any present.
Another thing that can be done to reduce the pain is to expose the stung area to hot water for about 20-minutes, though; it should be kept in mind that the hot water should not end up burning the patient.
Apart from using water, a person can also opt for a hot water shower after getting stung to relieve the pain and if there is no hot water present, an ice pack does a perfect job in reducing the pain caused by the sting. However, Mr. Smith is quick to remind that medical attention should be sought if a person develops breathing problems, rashes or faints following the sting.
