Saturday onwards, motorists have to pay parking fees for parking their vehicles in majority of the areas from a section of the Corniche to Al Falah Street.
The Mawaqif parking meters have been periodically exchanged on block by block over this year, 2010, with metered gaps currently numbering over 20,000.
The target of the Department of Transport's was to bring peace and control to the capital's much chaotic parking, however the complaint by a few residents complain has rendered matters worse.
Olivia Conneely residing in Khalidiyah paid Dh2, 000 for two parking permits last October. According to her the plan is a flawed one, since it has largely decreased the number of parking spaces available for use.
The situation used to be that majority of drivers parked illegally, on kerbs and/or on the middle of the road. However, if such illegalities are continued 2011 onwards, they will have to pay a Dh500 penalty.
Mrs. Conneely shared that post 7.30pm, there is not a single parking within walking distance of her residence flat. Already she has had to pay a penalty for having parked on a kerb, and is now worried that she might have to face these fines on a daily basis.
