A study that was carried out at the University of Harvard has stated that around 900-kiwi children were suffering from a lack of vitamin D. It also reported that an insufficiency of this vital nutrient could lead to children suffering from respiratory illnesses.
Talking about the study, Lead Author Carlos Camargo informed, that in order to maintain good health, human beings need to consume adequate amounts of vitamin D. The nutrient is basically derived from sunlight. Though, as New Zealand happens to lead the world regarding melanoma cancers, the actual solution to this problem was to consume supplements.
Camargo further informs that, as Vitamin D when consumed in excess can lead to other harmful effects. People consuming vitamin D need to undergo tests to ensure that they know, how much they need to consume to get rid of the deficiency.
He further says that the Health Ministry of New Zealand would have to play a part in ensuring that people are able to undergo such tests easily, especially as the rate of vitamin D deficiency in NZ was twice when compared to the United States.
According to the opinions expressed by Mr. Camargo, it seems that the best possible way to monitor vitamin D levels is by undergoing routine tests for the nutrient. The best possible way to carry a health amount of vitamin D is by consuming fruits and vegetables rich in the nutrient and monitoring levels on a routine basis.
