On Sunday, seven cases of foot and mouth disease surfaced in South Korea, including two cases that were reported at separate livestock farms in South Korea. The news is worrisome for the health authorities.
One new case of the foot and mouth disease was found at a pig farm in Boryeong, 106 miles southwest of the South Korean capital of Seoul following which South Korea's farm ministry has issued quarantine orders across the country. It was reported to be the third outbreak since weekend. The second case surfaced at a cattle farm in Chuncheon, east of Seoul.
As per Yonhap News Agency, Quarantine authorities have issued orders for slaughtering all the 72 heads of cattle and 23,000 pigs on these farms. Also, within a 1,600-foot radius of both farms, culling has been orders. Till now, the culling of 662,000 animals and vaccination of 452,000 livestock has been ordered by the Federal Government.
The very first incident of the disease came to light on November 29. Now, it has started attacking five provinces and Incheon. Humans are safe from this disease as it affects livestock.
