BitTorrent reaches milestone in user numbers

BitTorrentLast Monday, BitTorrent declared that it has crossed the milestone of 100 million monthly users worldwide through its BitTorrent Mainline and µTorrent software products.

Further, the company informed that it handles, on a total, 400,000 daily clients download and has over 20 million total regular users.

According to a statement made by Eric Klinker, the chief executive at BitTorrent, the day was an exciting one for the team.

Their target is to set up an exclusive technology ecosystem containing software, content and devices, created to connect modern content creators to a massive digital audience. He added that reaching this milestone highlighted the volume of their user base and their software's power.

BitTorrent claimed the reason of some of its growth to be the fresh initiatives like Spotlight Artist, a program for aiding content creators give away independent works, and also film distribution partnerships with VODO, such as "Pioneer One," "Yes Men," "Four Eyed Monsters," as well as an album from PAZ.

But a recent report from torrent site KickassTorrents discovered that the most popular searched items on BitTorrent in 2010 were Blockbuster Hollywood films and porn. In fact, the top ten searches included Inception, Iron Man 2, Avatar, Porn, etc.
