An outbreak of the dreaded condition of polio in Congo after a period of more than a decade has resulted in the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundations stepping in. The charitable body is an undertaking of Bill Gates, one of the Founders of Microsoft and a renowned billionaire.
The Bill and Melinda Gates foundation has already forwarded a grant amounting to $1-million towards the UNICEF, which will be working with the World Health Organization to combat the condition in the Republic of Congo. Both UNICEF and WHO are bodies of the United Nations Organization.
Talking about the current situation, one of the workers with the Foundation, Walt Orenstein informed that the outbreak was reported in the Pointe Noire area of Congo.
The neighboring country of Angola has been blamed for the condition spreading to Congo. Apparently, Angola had remained to be polio free as well, though, the disease came in contact with the infection again after it resurfaced by being transmitted from the subcontinent nation of India.
The three adjacent countries of India, Afghanistan and Pakistan have been stated to have never been polio free. While in Africa, Nigeria is among the country, which continues to battle the crippling condition.
