An outbreak of the infamous winter vomiting bug has resulted in a lockdown at the Riverview Rest Home. Apparently, both residents and caregivers are currently facing a mountain of hurdles to combat the outbreak.
The first day when the virus was first noted by authorities was around 10 days ago. Following the incident, the virus has spread across the rest home. Members of both the staff and residents have been affected by the norovirus, which happens to effect the gastrointestinal system of a person.
Manager of the Riverview Rest Home, Robyn Cheyne informed that the facility already had many procedures in place to take care of the outbreak. She added that though slowly but the institution was coming to terms with the outbreak.
At present, the virus is only being carried by a single person. The facility has still been kept in a lockdown and the rest home is taking assistance from the public health unit to overcome the situation.
None of the people infected by the virus has had to be hospitalized. Staff has been able to provide sufficient care to staff members and it has been made sure that the affected were hydrated properly.
Employees at the rest home have been the worst affected, as many people called in sick, which further pressurized the remaining staff.
