Antibiotics Or Superbugs: Who Will Rule the World?

Who Will Rule the World? The antibiotic crises have recently been in the news and make a lot of people worried. The inevitable question that comes into the minds of million is: is it the end of antibiotics?

The impending antibiotic crisis has been brought to a head by the renewed awareness that we are running out of antibiotic drugs that are capable of fighting against the superbugs and with the revelation following the discovery of NDM - 1, that these superbugs are also capable of sharing themselves with each other to fight back the most powerful of drugs.

There is a constant fight between these superbugs and our powerful antibiotics. Now the question comes - who will rule the world? It may be either of the cases. To rule the years ahead over the superbugs a new wave of inventions need to deluge the superbug population that will spur a new generation of drugs that will destroy the harmful microbes.

Antibiotics are drugs which only work against bacteria, not viruses because they work on microorganisms and viruses are not microorganisms.

We need to remember here that all bacteria are not harmful to us. Rather there are bacteria which are very helpful to humans, and without them many delights would vanish. However, apart from them, most of the bacteria are harmful to humans.

As viruses are not microorganisms, they cannot be controlled by antibiotics and here comes the root of the worry. Many medical practitioners prescribe antibiotics to cure viral infections and this directs to irresponsible use of this miraculous medical invention.
