Scientists ‘Discover’ Protein that Helps Maintain Blood Sugar LevelsIn a study that may pave way for the treatment of diabetes in a better way, British scientists claim to have found a protein that helps in maintaining the balance of blood sugar level in the body.

Named as M3-muscarinic receptor by the scientists, the protein, they claim, releases insulin into the blood. The scientists are hopeful that the protein would be a first step towards bringing to a halt regular insulin shots.

Notably, diabetes, a metabolic disorder, is a disease caused by inadequate or complete absence of insulin production by the pancreas. The glucose, which is the prime source of energy in the body, is produced from food. As the food is digested, the pancreas releases sufficient insulin to move the glucose present in our blood into the cells and thus lowers the blood sugar level.

But glucose cannot enter the body cells without the help of insulin, the former subsequently getting converted into energy for the smooth functioning of our body.

Diabetes is classified into three categories:

Type1: It is a category where the body completely fails to produce insulin.

Type2: In this kind of patients, the pancreas produces inadequate quantity of insulin, which is ineffective to carry out normal functions of the body.

Type3: This category of thee disease occurs in women during pregnancy and may disappear post-delivery.
