A recent study has established a significant link between the traffic noise and the stroke rate of people, over the age of 65. As per the lead researcher, Dr. Mette Sorensen, senior researcher at the Institute of Cancer Epidemiology, with every 10 db rise in noise level, the risk of stroke in people over the age of 65, increases by 27%.
Though there was no significant proof to establish any link between the risk associated with people below the age of 65, level of noise has always been termed as a potential cause of many cardiovascular disease.
Though this study has reflected a unique association between the stroke rate and noise level, earlier research work was focused on studying the link between the level of noise and rise in blood pressure.
The study has further affirmed the medical recommendation of many health experts, to avoid excessive exposure to noise so as to avoid any heart ailment, the researchers asserted on the need to conduct further probe to establish a firm link between the level of risk stroke and exposure of road traffic noise.
Many researchers believe that the population, under study, was mere representative of the entire population, thus, the results needs to be further substantiated with further evidence.
