The employers have increased the number of drug tests on their workers. They have found out that almost one among each ten is being busted on the job due to the effect of drugs.
The New Zealand Drug Detection Agency (NZDDA) has informed that they have conducted around 29,315 on-site drug tests in the year 2010. In year 2009, they have done 13,179 tests.
So there has been a hike in drug tests in the previous year as compared to the preceding year. They have also informed that the employers are spending reasonable amount of money on such activities but almost 9 per cent of all tests coming positive which has created concern for them.
NZDAA statistics have shown that cannabis was the main drug used among the employees. In 70.3 per cent of positive tests around the country this drugs was found to be present.
Last year, cocaine was found in 0.2 per cent of the tests found positive. None of the cases were found positive in which cocaine was found out.
