Daniel Domscheit-Berg, the ex-deputy chief of WikiLeaks, launched a rival whistle-blowing site- OpenLeaks.
OpenLeaks, which was created in protest of the methods used by WikiLeaks-founder Julian Assange to expose thousands of US diplomatic cables, was launched yesterday at the World Economic Forum in Davos.
A few months back, WikiLeaks welcomed severe criticism from several countries after it exposed as many as 250,000 US diplomatic cables, causing major embarrassment to US Government worldwide.
Domscheit-Berg, who was earlier involved with the German Chaos Computer Club hacking group, said that they launched OpenLeaks to support the purpose and objectives of WikiLeaks. However, he stressed that OpenLeaks would not follow the footsteps of Mr. Assange.
In addition, OpenLeaks also aims to encourage other to launch this sort of whistle-blowing sites.
Announcing the launch of OpenLeaks, Domscheit-Berg said, "We have to create transparency where it is refused." Meanwhile, Mr. Assange claimed that WikiLeaks would soon expose thousands of confidential documents belonging to a major US bank. He added that he enjoyed making US banks writhe thinking they might be the next targets of the whistle-blowing site.
