HPA Issues Guidelines Against to Limit the Spread of Superbug Infections in the UK

HPA Issues Guidelines Against to Limit the Spread of Superbug Infections in the UKHealth Authorities across the UK have announced new guidelines to limit the spread of superbugs in the country. It needs to be noted that superbugs are known to show high resistance levels, even to antibiotics like carbapenems, which are often used as the last line of treatment for people suffering from high resistance infections.

Carbapenems are known to be used for providing treatment against urinary infections, pneumonia that has been acquired at hospitals and infections caused because of the consumption of E. coli and Klebsiella. Health experts have opined that modern medicine could be put under immense threat especially as several strains have stopped reacting to the powerful antibiotic.

Talking about the prevailing situation, the Director of Antibiotic Monitoring, Health Protection Agency, David Livermore, informed that it was of utmost significance to understand that antibiotics play a vital role in treating infections, which can be caused from a minor surgery to a liver transplant. He added that if the advantage of a strong antibiotic is lost, then modern medicine will end up taking a huge step backwards.

The new guidelines have been issued to be followed by all infection control specialists in the country. They will be informed about how they can control superbugs, which have been found to be resistant against bacteria, which show resistance against carbapenems.
