Possible Indicator of Women Developing Breast Cancer Discovered

Possible Indicator of Women Developing Breast Cancer DiscoveredA recently conducted survey by researchers at the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center in Seattle has stated that women experiencing hot flashes while going through menopause are at a lower risk of developing breast cancer. The finding comes as a pleasant surprise to women, who end up suffering a lot of discomfort while going through this change.

Talking about the findings, the Lead Author and an Epidemiologist for Breast Cancer, Dr. Christopher I. Li, informed that it is commonly known that hormones played a significant role in determining whether a woman ended up developing breast cancer. Dr. Li, further said that menopausal symptoms are usually experienced because of the hormonal changes that women experience during menopause.

It needs to be noted that this is the first such study, which has looked into the relationship between women going through menopause and their risk to breast cancer.

The research has already appeared on the online journal known as Cancer Epidemiology Biomarkers and Prevention on the 26th of January. The total numbers of women participating in the study were around 1,437, out of whom
988 had been detected with the dreaded breast cancer.

According to experts involved in the survey, women who experienced the highest number of hot flashes during menopause were the least likely to develop breast cancer later on in life. It needs to be note d that, if the study is confirmed, it could lead to a better chance of doctors being able to diagnose breast cancer among women.
