On Thursday, the healthcare insurance sector lashed out at the healthcare plan revamp that the Obama Administration is currently promoting, and has every intention of putting into practice as soon as possible. As per the insurance sector, the new proposal would not take care of the major problem of rapidly increasing costs, nor would it help much with providing people with affordable health insurance.
In a speech in Detroit, America's Health Insurance Plans President Karen Ignagni, stressed that the Government is not even trying to look at the cost issue seriously which is currently the biggest concern for all healthcare insurance providers, as well as the general public.
"The bills before Congress settle for timid pilot programs, rather than requiring major changes; creating incentives that apply only to Medicare, rather than across the board; and establishing a new oversight body, but severely limiting its scope of review", President Ignagni said.
The AHIP represents the country's major health insurers including Aetna Inc, Cigna Corp and UnitedHealth Group Inc. In all, the organization represents some 1,300 of the nation's insurers, and while the groups supports the reforms in general, it is just pointing out the major shortcomings, while calling out for a the Government to look into these. "(Unfortunately), the cost-containment discussion has been largely sidetracked", believes Ms. Ignagni, who is now urging the authorities to make sure that all the loopholes are plugged before introducing such a huge change to the country's system.
