Home Accidents Claim 250 New Zealanders Annually

AccidentsAccording to a research study, more than two hundred and fifty New Zealanders die every year and thousands are hurt in home injuries. Thousands of citizens are put into hospitals because of minor and major accidents at home.

The victims include children, elderly people having major falls. The cost of the treatment is around $13 billion every year.

Dr. Michael Keall, of the university's department of public health, said people often saw their homes as being relatively safe.

People need to be very cautious and should be very careful while walking on staircases. Children mostly are injured while playing outside. There are also reports of people who are stung by insects. People falling over the bathroom are also hurt very badly. They suffer severe back injuries. A total of 17,598 people were treated in hospital after been seriously injured in their residence in the year 2007. In the same year, 649,187 people have suffered minor injuries.

There have been maximum injuries and the social costs of the treatment are very high. The transport injuries conceded $3.84 billion each year and the residence social injuries were a whooping $13 billion.

Small concerns like laying bathmats in the bathroom and installing shower can prevent accidents.
