Adelaide City Council is looking forward to ban smoking in the main shopping mall areas of the city. This law was passed by the council and this was suggested by the Heart Foundation.
Lord Mayor Stephen Yarwood has stated that public support is needed to prohibit smoking in Rundle Mall. He has said that he is very much anxious to see how the community is taking this issue.
However, Councilor Anne Moran has supported this ban but she has said that if this ban is extended throughout the city area then it will ruin the outdoor dining areas.
She has said that, she could perceive the value of banning it in shopping grounds, Rundle Mall before a restaurant precinct.
However if this ban goes on further from all its footpaths then there would be a rush to Norwood, Unley and all the other outdoor dining areas as stated by her.
There will be discussions over these in the coming months as said by the council. Heart Foundation official Geoff Halsey considers this ban as positive move and says it would persuade more smokers to give up the habit.
